A very warm welcome to the new look website of the Watford & District Classic Vehicle Club, the club was formed in 1994 by two local enthusiasts Doug May and Peter Batchelor. With the Enfield and District Veteran Vehicle Society and the Uxbridge & District Classic Vehicle Society they considered there was a gap between these two clubs, enough to create another one.

The WDCVC exists to support anyone who owns a veteran, vintage or classic vehicle including commercials, a vehicle of special interest or simply an interest in the vehicle movement.

Membership is open to all. You don't have to live in Watford, you don't even have to live in the UK. You don't need to even own a form of transport! All you need is enthusiasm. We hold regular meetings, have a bi-monthly magazine, and we host and attend lots of shows throughout the year (see SHOWS page). So if you fancy meeting some super people and visiting some great places, please get in touch or go to JOIN page for a membership form.

Classic Show is in the Driving Seat

Croxley Green played host to thousands of car enthusiasts on Wednesday as the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust held it's annual Classics on the Green event.

The previous year had attracted nearly 1800 vehicles of all shapes and sizes and this year's event did not disappoint.

Organiser Kevin France said on Wednesday: "We were on the internet last night tweeking the weather forecasts to avoid the rain and so far it's worked."

"The beauty of this event is that you just don't know what's going to come along as it's open to absolutely everyone."

The classic car show, now in it's seventh year, has gone from strength to strength since it began in 2002 with just 300 cars in attendance.

Mr France said: "People of all ages are excited by the cars we have on show here because there is such a variety. None of the cars are parked in categories so there really is a total mix."

"I would estimate that at it's peak, when all the cars are here, there will be about £5 million worth on the green this year."

The show attracts all sorts of vehicles, from classic cars to brand new models.

It is this variety, the organisers say, which makes the event so popular.

Doug Mayers, owner of a stunning 1935 Riley explained the event's appeal. He said: "The show provides a great opportunity to meet like-minded people. I have been coming for five years and it really is something to look forward to."

The annual event also raised thousands of pounds for the RNLI Lifeboats and Diabetes UK.

Many of the vehicles will return to the Green at the Carters Steam Fair on Saturday, September 20, where the club will also be present.
