A very warm welcome to the new look website of the Watford & District Classic Vehicle Club, the club was formed in 1994 by two local enthusiasts Doug May and Peter Batchelor. With the Enfield and District Veteran Vehicle Society and the Uxbridge & District Classic Vehicle Society they considered there was a gap between these two clubs, enough to create another one.

The WDCVC exists to support anyone who owns a veteran, vintage or classic vehicle including commercials, a vehicle of special interest or simply an interest in the vehicle movement.

Membership is open to all. You don't have to live in Watford, you don't even have to live in the UK. You don't need to even own a form of transport! All you need is enthusiasm. We hold regular meetings, have a bi-monthly magazine, and we host and attend lots of shows throughout the year (see SHOWS page). So if you fancy meeting some super people and visiting some great places, please get in touch or go to JOIN page for a membership form.

Please have a look at our website and if you have any further enquiries please dont hesitate to e-mail us through the website of contact one of us by telephone, the numbers can be found on the " Contact " page.

Classic Show is in the Driving Seat

Croxley Green played host to thousands of car enthusiasts on Wednesday as the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust held it's annual Classics on the Green event.

The previous year had attracted nearly 1800 vehicles of all shapes and sizes and this year's event did not disappoint.

Organiser Kevin France said on Wednesday: "We were on the internet last night tweeking the weather forecasts to avoid the rain and so far it's worked."

"The beauty of this event is that you just don't know what's going to come along as it's open to absolutely everyone."

The classic car show, now in it's seventh year, has gone from strength to strength since it began in 2002 with just 300 cars in attendance.

Mr France said: "People of all ages are excited by the cars we have on show here because there is such a variety. None of the cars are parked in categories so there really is a total mix."

"I would estimate that at it's peak, when all the cars are here, there will be about £5 million worth on the green this year."

The show attracts all sorts of vehicles, from classic cars to brand new models.

It is this variety, the organisers say, which makes the event so popular.

Doug Mayers, owner of a stunning 1935 Riley explained the event's appeal. He said: "The show provides a great opportunity to meet like-minded people. I have been coming for five years and it really is something to look forward to."

The annual event also raised thousands of pounds for the RNLI Lifeboats and Diabetes UK.

Many of the vehicles will return to the Green at the Carters Steam Fair on Saturday, September 20, where the club will also be present.

Peter Batchelor

I would like to thank Peter for all his hard work that he has put into the Club since he and Doug May founded the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club in 1994. The club has achieved and accomplished a lot since the first meetings at Calendars Restaurant Car Park in St Albans Road back in June 1995. He should feel proud of what he has done for the club, and will still be doing as a Director along with myself of Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust Ltd the Charity arm of the club which runs all the Three Classic Car shows.

Peter has held the post of Chairman for 12 years, but due to personal commitments and with much regret has felt it is time to stand down as Chairman of the club in order to allow him more time to deal with these matters. He has assured us that he will attend as many shows as he can.

Peter will continue to remain on the Committee and will now officially hold the post of Membership Secretary (a post Peter has held from the outset) and will continue to deal with the club emails along with the setting up and down of the three main car shows.

Both he and I will continue to control the Trust issues within the club along with Peter Watson who runs the accounts.

From my observations, I have seen over the years since I joined the Club that Peter has enjoyed his term as Chairman and has made many friends within the club and through other groups and organisations in which we are involved with.

Peter issued a letter to the membership early February to thank the Committee and the membership for their hard work, support and dedication as without the support the Club would not be in the position it is today.

Any enquiries you may can be made to any of the Committee Members or through this web site by email.

Nominations for the post of Chairperson will be sought via the ballot prior to the AGM in November 2007.
